1934 Nash (1282-R) Advanced Eight Coupe Twin-Ignition, Straight Eight Engine
It was early in 2005 that I first saw the '34, on various pages on the www, some indicating that it was available for sale but all of the details including names and e-mail addresses listed with it, led me nowhere. Then, by a stroke of luck, I found out where it was - New South Wales, Australia - but, a little problem like that didn’t deter me!
After months of discussion and much negotiation, the Nash was purchased, loaded into a container and began its journey on board the container ship Columbus New Zealand from Melbourne via Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland, Napier, Port Chalmers, across the Pacific to Manzanillo in Panama, through the Panama Canal (I know it’s sad but I watched it’s progress on the canal’s webcams)on to Philadelphia then across the Atlantic to Zeebrugge, Belgium.
With the services of Bev Fawkes - bev@bluethunder.f9.co.uk - from ‘Blue Thunder Transport’ we travelled from Dover to the Port of Zeebrugge where, dodging the massive mobile dockside cranes, we unloaded the container and the Nash was safely loaded onto Bev’s low-loader. With curtains drawn we headed back to Blighty. It was the end of September 2005 and the Nash was in the UK.
